This is a picture of the separated but equal march. Black people wanted to have the same rights as White people. Also MLK helped them get the rights they needed.

Social

Head Start- Funded a preschool for disadvantaged children. Its main goal was to improve overall school performance of poor children by entering them into a two-month long pre-kindergarten program.

Separate but equal- Doctrine established by the 1896 Supreme court case Plessy v. Ferguson that permitted laws segregating African Americans as long as equal facilities were provided.

Filibuster- Occurs when a small group of senators take turns speaking and refuse to stop the debate and allow a bill to come to vote. Today a filibuster can be stopped if at least 60 senators vote for Cloture- A motion which cuts off debate and forces a vote.

Economical

Poll Tax- A tax of a fixed amount per person that had to be paid before the person could vote.

The Great Society- Was Johnson's vision of the more perfect and equitable society the United States could and should become.

Black Panthers- They considered themselves the heirs of Malcolm X- had become a symbol of the black power movement that was sweeping the nation.

Political

Flexible Response- If nations needed help against Communist movements, the president pushed for a buildup of conventional troops and weapons.

Alliance for progress- A series of cooperative aid projects with Latin American governments.

War on poverty- Anti-poverty program under president Lyndon Johnson.

History is a history of progress, during this time the Black rights have made major changes blacks and whites can now attend the same schools. Also  Congress passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965, guaranteeing basic civil rights for all Americans, regardless of race, after nearly a decade of nonviolent protests and marches,This was progress because people were for the most part peacefully protesting for their own rights.
